A huge crowd outside the State Theatre cheered the arrival of Jolie and Pitt. The Hollywood power couple wowed them even further when they took time to chat to their Australian fans, happily signing autographs and posing for ‘selfies’on request.

For a select group of attendees, the premiere of the film – a tale of survival against epic odds – was especially poignant.

Burns survivor Turia Pitt, war hero Damien Thomlinson and Pink Hope founder Krystal Barter were invited to walk the red carpet alongside Jolie and Pitt and be the first to see the WWII film, which based on the true story of athlete and prisoner-of-war survivor Louis Zamperini.

The local heroes, who have overcome their own horrific challenges and adversity, were given the star treatment as they rubbed shoulders with movie industry royalty.

Paralympian Jacqueline Freney, Cambodian orphanage founder Geraldine Cox and Fred Hollows Foundation founder Gabi Hollows were also among the inspirational guests, who were personally invited by Jolie to be among the first in the world to see her latest project on the big screen.
