He may play the dubious, slightly misogynistic Nick Dunne in the film adaptation of Gone Girl, but in real life, Ben Affleck is a loving husband to his wife Jennifer Garner. Covering Elle’s Women in Hollywood issue, Garner opened up about her marriage to the future Batman.

The A-list couple started dating in 2004 after costarring in Daredevil, and got married the next year. They share three children — daughters Violet, 8, and Seraphina, 5, and son Samuel, 2 — which significantly changed Garner’s life plan.
“My ambition shifted when I had kids in a way that I didn’t anticipate,” the Men, Women & Children star, 42, explained in the cover story. “I became more ambitious for my life as a whole, and for that kind of health and happiness of the overall family unit. And that very much includes my husband and very much includes me.”

Though they both have demanding, high-profile careers in Hollywood, Affleck, 42, has always encouraged Garner to follow her passions.
“My husband is always the one saying to me, ‘You have to work, you have to work. This is part of who you are. We’ll figure it out,’” she said of the Oscar winner. “That’s powerful, when your partner has that serious mantra.”
Garner has been singing her husband’s praises lately, joking about his nude Gone Girl scene to Ellen DeGeneres, saying, “What I have to say is, ‘You’re welcome.’ I just try to consider myself a charitable person and I wanted to give back.”
