It’s been a big year for Aussie actress Tammin Sursok. She harbors many juicy secrets as Jenna on ABC Family’s hit show Pretty Little Liars and is Jackson’s love interest on Hannah Montana and we just can’t get enough the rising star.
She took time from her crazy schedule to answer a few of our most burning questions about her pop star past, how she’s different from the character’s she plays and her dating deal breakers!
Life Back Home:Â “Australia is an island surrounded by water. My fondest memories growing up were trips to the beach, walking around the harbor and playing in the beautiful parks. I think the difference is that from a very young age Australian kids are very active. Always surfing/hiking playing team sports!”
Bitten By the Bug: “I always wanted to perform. I remember being 5 years old and telling my parents to sit down as I was going to put on a play for them. My mum was a singer so i think that part was inherent. In Australia, there is a very famous show called Home and Away. I was cast on that at 15. The day I started filming, my life changed.”
Singing Star:Â “Singing is and always will be a part of my life. It was an incredible experience and I relished every second of being in the studio. I would like to go back to it at some point but I’m happy where I am at right now.”
Pretty Little Liars:Â “I love playing Jenna. We have nothing in common but that’s the best place to be. It makes me excited to play something so far removed from who I am. I can relate to having cliques in school. We definitely had clearly defined groups and like Jenna, I also felt excluded. I was part of the “nice girls.” People liked us but we were not the coolest or the prettiest or the most fashionable.”
Truth About Miley: “Hannah Montana was supposed to be a few episodes and it turned into the entire final season. It was a wonderful experience. A very strong family atmosphere and I loved the live studio audience days. Miley was a lot funnier than I thought. She has an old soul and was very worldly.”
Staying Grounded:Â “I think it is hard for young girls who rise to fame so quickly when they don’t have a firm base. That is why you see them act out and go wild. Working is the most important thing to me. All the other ancillary things are not important. My friends and family keep me strong.”
Best Advice:Â “To thine own self be true.”
Guiltiest Pleasure:Â “Chocolate and chocolate!”
Dating Deal Breaker:Â Being rude or cheap. A perfect date would be a picnic on the beach at sunset.”
